Os problemas de saúde causados pela poluição do ar custam bilhões de dólares por ano em despesas médicas e perda de produtividade. A Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde (OPAS) estima que mais de 100 milhões de pessoas nas cidades latino-americanas estão expostas a níveis de poluição do ar que excedem os padrões recomendados. Em muitos casos, a poluição do ar e os gases de efeito estufa tradicionais têm as mesmas fontes, o que significa que as tecnologias ou políticas de mitigação que funcionam para um podem ser eficazes para a eliminação do outro.
O Programa Clima e Ar Limpo em Cidades da América Latina (CALAC +) é uma iniciativa da Cooperação Suíça (SDC) executada pela Swisscontact que busca promover a eficiência e a velocidade da redução de poluentes atmosféricos prejudiciais à saúde humana e mitigar as mudanças climáticas por meio da aplicação de filtros de partículas de motores a diesel (DPF). O programa funciona em quatro cidades (Bogotá, Cidade do México, Lima e Santiago do Chile), apoiando a implementação de medidas para reduzir as emissões de fuligem, poluentes atmosféricos e gases de efeito estufa no transporte urbano e nas máquinas de construção. Durante a fase anterior, diferentes iniciativas foram apoiadas para um transporte urbano menos intensivo em emissões de carbono.
Este webinar apresentará duas experiências para a redução de emissões de fuligem na América Latina: a primeira é a implementação de filtros de partículas no transporte urbano na cidade de Santiago do Chile e a segunda é a introdução de ônibus de transporte Euro VI na Cidade do México.
