Cities taking action on climate change

The Latin America and the Caribbean Platform for Low Emission Resilient Development Strategies (LEDS LAC) is pleased to invite you to the series of webinars that will feature the experiences of cities that are taking action on climate change, with the support of regional cooperation initiatives.

The webinars will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. CST, according to the following schedule:The initiative on Climate Resilient Cities (CRC) is supporting six innovative research projects for decision-making and action in 13 small and medium-sized cities in Latin America, with the aim of promoting climate-resilient urban development. Two case studies will be presented: the Cooperation in Border Cities project , covering Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, Foz de Iguazú in Brazil and Puerto Iguazú in Argentina; and the Participatory Planning for Climate Resilience project, covering Santa Ana in El Salvador , Santo Tomé in Argentina and Dosquebradas in Colombia.

Co-organized with: Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), international Development Research Centre (IDRC), and Futuro Latinoamericano Foundation (FFLA).For five years, the Footprint of Cities Project supported the design of policies, action plans and mitigation and adaptation projects in 12 cities in Latin America, and contributed to strengthen decision-making processes in urban planning and management  including the climate variable. The webinar will present the results of the project, the advances in the development and application of the water footprint methodology in cities, and the case of the Footprint Reduction Plan  in the City of Cuenca, Ecuador.

The Footprint of Cities Project is an initiative of CAF – development bank of Latin America – in partnership with AFD – French Development Agency – and Climate and Development Alliance (CDKN), and implemented by the consultancy Servicios Ambientales S.A.

Co-organized with: Servicios Ambientales S.A.This webinar will share experiences of Mexico and Costa Rica in the development of local planning instruments on climate change, applied to different forms of political-administrative division, with a focus on vertical integration and alignment with the Nationally Determined Contributions  (NDCs).
