About the webinar

Landscape restoration is a process of policies and instruments undertaken as an option for rural development, to recover the productive capacity of degraded or deforested lands that are largely underutilized. This improves agricultural production, generates timber, and non-timber forest products, and increases the offer of ecosystem services such as water quality, erosion control, cultural values, climate regulation, vulnerability reduction, and others. The member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) are developing restoration initiatives which have been declared a priority in the Regional Forestry Program -PERFOR-.

The objectives of landscape restoration are aligned with the national objectives of rural development and are compatible with other national or international initiatives which countries have joined. This is the case of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, the preparation process to Reduce Deforestation and Forest Degradation REDD+; Strategies to reduce illegal logging activity (FLEGT), and actions to adapt to climate change, among others.

This webinar will explain the context and advances in landscape restoration in Central America, as well as the costs, benefits and co-benefits. The case of forest restoration in Guatemala will be presented. The webinar will be held in Spanish. If you have any questions about this event, please contact the LEDS LAC Platform Secretariat: [email protected].
