GREEN FISCAL INSTRUMENTS FOR LOW-EMISSION DEVELOPMENT: THE CHILEAN EXPERIENCE
Day: Tuesday, November 11, 2014Time: 9:00- 10:30 am (GMT -6)
About the webinar
Fiscal instruments are particularly important in a transition to low-emission, climate-resilient development. A wide range of fiscal instruments - including pollutant taxes - are available to governments to promote more inclusive green growth by sending economic signals to redirect investments towards cleaner technologies.
The objective of this webinar was to examine in more detail the benefits of green tax instruments and Chile's experience in the creation of the new carbon tax. This tax on fixed emission sources applies to companies using thermal power equal to or greater than 50 MW and the government expects that it will lead to further greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions and additional revenue of US$$160 million per year.
