Introduction to the event
To meet the 1.5°C targets of the Paris Agreement and those of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a systemic shift away from carbon-intensive models is necessary. In this context, the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) has developed the "Assessment Guide on Transformational Change"to help understand the relationship between policies and actions and their expected or achieved transformational impact. A transformational change is one that is fundamental and sustained to a system that disrupts established carbon-intensive practices and contributes to a low-carbon society.
In order to increase the accessibility of the guides in Spanish-speaking countries, especially in the Latin American and Caribbean region, the guide has been translated into Spanish and a webinar was held on August 2. In this event, the benefits of using the guide and why its application is important were presented. Mirko dal Maso, former consultant of UNEP Copenhagen Climate Center, presented the main features of the guide as well as its applications. Additionally, Ana Lucia Moya Mora, Project Manager (CBIT-Costa Rica) of the UN Environment Program, shared Costa Rica's experience using the guide. The recording and materials of the webinar are available at the following link: https://www.ledslac.org/webinars/guia-de-evaluacion-sobre-el-cambio-transformacional-evaluacion-de-los-impactos-transformacionales-de-las-politicas-y-acciones/
After the webinar, we explored the interest of the participants in attending an in-depth session in which the guide and the process of applying it would be presented in more detail, answering different questions, such as How long does it take to implement the guide and what resources are needed to implement it? In addition, it is intended that interested people learn about the ICAT.
Objective of the event
- That the target audience knows in more detail how they can apply the guide and that in the future, it can be more widely used in the LAC region.
Expected results
At the end of the workshop, attendees are expected to take away the following:
- Theoretical and practical understanding of the Climate Action Transparency Initiative's (ICAT) Transformational Change Assessment Guide.

Participants
- Current and potential users of the guides (particularly in those countries where the guides are not being used):
- Public sector: Ministries and sub-national governments
- Private Sector
- Civil Society
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
