In-Depth Session: Non-State and Subnational Action Guide of the Climate Action Transparency Initiative (ICAT)

24 May 2022
9:00-10:30 hrs Peru

Presentation

Introduction to the event

The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) has developed the Non-state and sub-national action guide to help policy makers and analysts identify, quantify and integrate the impact of non-state and subnational actions. With this information it is possible to improve national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trajectories and climate policies.

In order to increase the accessibility of the guides in Spanish-speaking countries, especially in the Latin American and Caribbean region, the guide has been translated into Spanish and a webinar was held on May 10. In this event, the benefits of using the guide and why it is important to apply it were presented. Andrés Flores, Director of Climate Change and Energy of the World Resources Institute (WRI) presented the main features of the guide as well as its applications. In addition, Sebastián Garín, Coordinator of the HuellaChile Program of the Chilean Ministry of Environment, shared Chile's experience using the guide. The recording and materials of the webinar are available at the following link: https://www.ledslac.org/webinars/guia-accion-no-estatal-y-subnacional-iniciativa-transparencia-accion-climatica-icat/

After the webinar, we explored the interest of the participants in attending an in-depth session in which the guide and the process of applying it would be presented in more depth, answering different questions, such as How long does it take to implement the guide and what resources are needed to implement it? In addition, it is intended that those interested learn about the ICAT application process.

Objective of the event

That the target audience knows in more detail how they can apply the guide and that in the future, it can be more widely used in the LAC region.

Expected results

At the end of the workshop, attendees are expected to take away the following:

  • Theoretical and practical understanding of the Non-State and Subnational Action Guide of the Initiative for Transparency in Climate Action (ICAT).

  • In addition, participants will take away a document prepared by LEDS LAC with key messages and elements of the session that will allow them to continue learning.
