About the webinar
Green bonds are investment instruments whose main objective is to finance climate change mitigation or adaptation projects. The operation is simple: the investor delivers an amount that in the medium to long term will be repaid plus a certain profit (bonus). The difference is that green bonds are labeled to pre-selected climate projects.
The market has seen exponential growth over the last few years and a total expected issuance for 2016 that will double the 2015 figure. The Paris Agreement also provides a promising framework for this instrument. The Paris Agreement's nationally determined contributions are expected to drive government and corporate investments in large-scale climate projects, while not sacrificing economic returns, providing fertile ground for the issuance of more such bonds.
In this webinar, the conceptual basis of green bonds was presented. It also included the experience of Mexico -which has already issued three green bonds- in the development and implementation of this instrument. The webinar was conducted in Spanish.
