People transforming development

What is a
Community of Practice?

Within the framework of LEDS LAC's work, the Communities of Practice (CoP) are spaces that facilitate exchange, capacity building and collaboration among a group of people and organizations working on a common theme.

We currently have six Communities of Practice and two Working Groups:

How does it work?

Technical assistance

A third fundamental aspect is the support to members to apply the knowledge and tools acquired in the framework of the CoP in their work context. This is done through the facilitation of specific technical assistance, both with resources from the communities themselves and from other partners.

Exchange and joint learning

The backbone of the CoPs are the activities that facilitate the exchange and capacity building among its members on relevant topics from LAC countries and other regions. This exchange and strengthening takes place through activities such as: virtual exchange sessions, training and/or networking, discussion groups, face-to-face workshops and others.

Dissemination of learning

Another key element is the systematization and dissemination of the learning generated in these spaces to a wider audience of LEDS LAC members, networks of partners and members, through webinars, knowledge products, visibility and communications products, and others.

Bioenergy

The Bioenergy Community of Practice is a joint initiative of LEDS LAC and the Energy Working Group of LEDS GP. It was launched in 2016, with the aim of promoting the sustainable use of bioenergy in Latin America and the Caribbean, through the exchange of experiences, capacity building and facilitation of technical assistance. Experts from governmental organizations, NGOs and private companies from 13 countries in the region have participated in the activities developed during its 4 years of operation. The main language for exchange activities is English.

ArticuLAC: Public-Private Articulation

The Private Sector Community of Practice, is an initiative of EUROCLIMA+ through GIZ, LEDS LAC and the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS) of INCAE Business School. It began operations in 2018, with the objective of promoting the opening of spaces for the systematic participation of the private sector in the formulation and implementation of climate policy. Transportation Working Group (TWG)

The Transportation Working Group (TWG), in partnership with the LEDS GP Regional Platforms, is building a resilient, low-emission transportation community at the global level, supporting champions and innovators, linking networks of low-emission transportation experts, and exploring opportunities for collaboration at the local and regional levels.

The TWG coordinated by the Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC) has been working since 2014, providing support for capacity building, and improving the design and implementation of NDCs in the region, on the priority issues identified by its members, through its two Communities of Practice (CoP):

Resource Efficiency Working Group

Resource management has a major impact on greenhouse gas emissions at every stage of the resource life cycle. There is therefore a great opportunity to collaborate with companies, governments and other stakeholders to understand the impact and potential reductions associated with managing their resources more efficiently.

Decarbonization Pathways Community

It is a community of state and regional governments interested in learning how to develop a transformational process or "pathway" to reduce emissions. The pathway approach gives participating members the ability to make informed choices about the best option to reduce emissions while supporting their economic and social development.

Climate Policy Monitoring and Evaluation

The Community of Practice (CoP) on Climate Policy Monitoring and Evaluation is an initiative of the Climate Governance Component of the EUROCLIMA+ Program, the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP) and the Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean on Low Emission and Resilient Development Strategies (LEDS LAC).
