The LEDS LAC Platform will be participating with a series of side events during COP 25. Join us and our partners to learn about the progress and challenges in the implementation of NDCs in Latin America and the Caribbean, and discuss how best to increase the ambition of climate commitments and continue working towards resilient and low-carbon development from different approaches.

The role of the circular economy in achieving and raising the ambition of the NDCs

Venue: NDC Partnership Pavilion

About the event: The circular economy contributes to climate resilience and has the potential to improve livelihoods, create new jobs and stimulate private sector innovation. This side event will bring together representatives from different sectors who will share their experiences and discuss the importance of circular economy strategies to design and implement more efficient and low-emission production systems with the aim of increasing ambition towards NDC commitments.

Enhancing the private sector's contribution to climate action and ambition

About the event: Private sector engagement is key to ensuring the viability of climate policies, mobilizing finance for their implementation, and making countries' climate commitments more ambitious. Members of the Community of Practice (CoP) on Private Sector Engagement in Climate Policy in Latin America have identified factors that facilitate a systematic involvement of the private sector in climate policy and action and the main lessons learned will be presented during this session.

Expert dialogue on bioenergy and climate ambition

Venue: IDFC Pavilion (COP25 Blue Zone)

About the event: Experts from public, private and international cooperation organizations from the energy, agriculture, forestry, solid waste and other relevant areas working in the promotion and development of bioenergy in the region are invited to participate in a dialogue aimed at identifying concrete lines of action and promoting new partnerships to advance the contribution of bioenergy to climate ambition and sustainable development.

About the event: LEDSenLAC 2019 presents the current state of resilient and low-emission development in LAC. In a panel format, representatives from LAC country governments and the agencies / programs that supported their elaboration will present their findings and discuss the opportunities and challenges of increasing the ambition of NDCs and linking them to long-term development.

Progress on climate action in Latin America - Nationally Determined Contributions to 2019

Venue: EUROCLIMA+ Pavilion (COP25 Blue Zone)

About the event: This event will present the main advances and challenges in the implementation of NDCs in Latin America and the Caribbean, through the presentation of three regional studies, which constitute a frame of reference on the implementation of NDCs in the region. The studies were prepared by LEDS LAC (with support from IDB and UNDP), ECLAC and GIZ together with Fundación Avina and ECLAC, in all three cases with support from EUROCLIMA+. In this side event we will learn about the findings of these studies and hear the concrete experience of two countries: Ecuador and Paraguay.
