Contributions from energy efficiency and mining to COP 26

Date

Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 09:00 to 11:00 a.m. (Bogotá, Quito, Lima GMT-5)

Second regional event

GIZ Colombia's Raw Materials and Climate Project (MaPriC) regional event series on mining and climate change.

According to the World Bank report "The Growing Role of Minerals and Metals for a Low Carbon Future", with the rise of clean energy technologies, demand for a wide range of minerals and metals is expected to grow. This means that long-term strategies for sustainable mineral extraction must be forged and appropriate investments made. To this end, sectoral policy dialogues must be accelerated in order to comply with international agreements and adapt production systems as priority issues for the Latin American region.

In this second Regional Event, the MaPriC project, together with the EAN University, will open a dialogue between the governmental, academic and private sectors and with a regional scope on the role of climate action in mining with a view to fulfilling the international commitments of the countries. The main messages and lessons learned will be collected as inputs to take to COP26.
