LEDS LAC Webinar Green fiscal instruments for low-emissions development: the experience of Chile.

Date: Tuesday, November 11th, 2014

Time: 9:00-10:30 am (GMT-6)

About the webinar

Fiscal instruments are especially important in a transition to low-emissions and climate-resilient development. Governments have a variety of fiscal instruments – including taxes on polluting activities – to promote a more inclusive green growth as economic signals are sent to reorient investment towards cleaner technologies.

The goal of this webinar is to examine in more detail the benefits of green fiscal instruments and the experience of Chile in the creation of a new tax on carbon emissions. This tax applies to companies operating thermal plants with installed capacity equal or larger than 50 megawatts (MW). The government hopes this will lead to a further reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and additional revenues of US$160 million a year.

The webinar will be in Spanish.
