In the framework of the work of LEDS LAC and LEDS GP, Communities of Practice (CoP) are a collaborative space for groups of experts who meet virtually or face-to-face to exchange knowledge and strengthen capacities around a specific subject matter.
Currently, these are our seven communities:
MetLAC is a community of public institutions, non-governmental organizations, private companies, and academic institutions from 10 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), who participate in dialogue, exchange of experiences, and capacity building activities, with the purpose of promoting and supporting the development of public policies, business models, and investment projects that contribute on reducing methane emissions from organic waste, as well as other sustainable development goals through actions such as composting, anaerobic digestion, food waste reduction, and similar initiatives.
The Bioenergy Community of Practice is a joint initiative of LEDS LAC and the LEDS GP Energy Working Group. It was launched in 2016, with the aim of promoting the sustainable use of bioenergy in Latin America and the Caribbean through the exchange of experiences, capacity building and the provision of technical assistance. Experts from governmental organizations, NGOs and private companies from 13 countries in the region have participated in the activities developed during its 4 years of operation. The main language for the exchange activities is English.
The Community of Practice on the Private Sector is an initiative of EUROCLIMA+ through GIZ, LEDS LAC and the Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS) of INCAE Business School. It began operations in 2018, with the aim of promoting the creation of spaces for the systematic participation of the private sector in the development and implementation of climate policies. It is integrated by national teams made up of representatives of public and private organizations from countries of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme.
The Transport Working Group (TWG), in partnership with the LEDS GP Regional Platforms, is building a resilient, low emission transport community at a global level, supporting champions and innovators, linking networks of low emission transport experts and exploring opportunities for collaboration at a local and regional level.
The TWG coordinated by the Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC) has been working since 2014, providing support for capacity building, and improving the design and implementation of the NDCs in the region, on the priority issues identified by its members, through its two Communities of Practice (CoP)
Resource management has a major impact on greenhouse emissions at every stage of the resource life cycle. This is why there is a great opportunity to work with businesses, governments and other stakeholders to understand the impact and possible reductions related to a more efficient management of their resources.
It is a community of state and regional governments interested in learning how to develop a transformative process or trajectory that allows for emission reduction. The trajectory approach gives participating members the opportunity to choose, in an informed manner, the best option for reducing emissions while supporting their economic and social development.
The Community of Practice (CoP) for Monitoring and Evaluation of Climate Policies is an initiative of the Climate Governance Component of the EUROCLIMA+ Programme, the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP; in Spanish) and the Regional Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean for Resilient and Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS LAC).
A group of experts from ministries of environment, planning, finance and other government bodies in the Latin American and Caribbean region exchange experiences and knowledge, successes and challenges, with regard to the monitoring and evaluation of climate policies. CoP members actively participate in virtual and face-to-face sessions, share materials by means ranging from email to mobile phone messaging, and access documentation of success stories identified in the region. Specific topics covered include the definition of targets and indicators, national-territorial articulation for climate policy M&E, and monitoring and evaluation of climate change adaptation.
