About the webinar

Women and men play different roles to be both users, and system administrators of the energy. Often, women are a disadvantaged group, whose energy needs are not adequately solved and whose total integration as participants in the design of policies and active actors in the projects is still a challenge for energy planning. Therefore a project or energy policy incorporating a gender perspective would benefit women and men equally, recognizing their distinct energy needs. The integration of gender considerations tends to increase project efficiency and energy policies which are integrated, as this process helps to identify barriers to implementation and possible benefits such as emissions reduction and increased resilience to climate change.

This webinar provided information on the importance of linking gender and access to energy, the inclusion of gender in the demand for energy, some examples of the involvement of women in the value chain of the energy and information resources available online. In addition, two case studies where gender and access to energy projects are linked were presented: In the first case the events described in PELNICA, rural electrification project for extension of networks, which implemented a Rural Development Strategy and Gender Equality (DRiG). In the second case the inclusion of gender experience in the implementation of the micro hydro Batzchocolá Community, Nebaj, Quiché, Guatemala is developed.

The webinar was held in Spanish.
