About the webinar
Coastal marine areas in Latin America and the Caribbean face major development challenges, which are increased by climate change. Vulnerability assessment is key to build resilience and provides elements to address other important challenges associated with sustainable development, such as natural resource management, food security and risk management, among others.
By assessing how vulnerable the community and the coastal territory are, there is a basis for strengthening their resilience. However, this is a complex task, as it involves harmonizing concepts and approaches to climate change and risk management, socio-economic elements of adaptive capacity and community capitals, all complementary and directly related to resilience.
This webinar will analyze the methodological approach used by the WaterClima-LAC project, funded by the European Commission and implemented by a consortium of academic institutions in the region, to understand and build the resilience of coastal communities.

Laura Benegas Negri
Agronomist at the National University of Asuncion, she has a master’s degree in Management and Integral Management of Watersheds from CATIE and has completed his doctoral studies in Soil Science at the University of Agricultural Sciences of Sweden. She is a teacher and researcher at CATIE, with technical cooperation and project formulation and implementation. Her research lines are the management and monitoring of watersheds with the resilience approach, and the basic research in water dynamics in the soil.
